I've never read To Kill a Mockingbird but-I DO Have an answer to your question about Milton-Giant Sparrow's previous game, 'The Unfinished Swan'-I know a REALLY good playthrough that points out some details some folks might miss if you're really digging into the lore!
youtube
Here's the playlist-! You can skip right past the Edith Finch stuff if you want-it should be right there!
I just finished playing What Remains Of Edith Finch for the first time and you cannot convince me that these Finches and the Finches from To Kill A Mockingbird aren’t the same fucking family.

Questions I have surrounding Milton Finch
(if anyone has answers please feel free to share)
1: How did the door only work for him?? We see the aforementioned painted door in his room, but the design is different and worn down. Is it even the same door? Idk
2: Monroe's mother: How did Milton meet her? If he had the ability to return to the real world and sire a child, why didn't he ever use that world-hopping ability to look for his family? Did he just assumed they all would have died? This is the biggest question for me; like how he came back, for what reason, and then why he abandoned both her and his son. How old was he even?
3: How could Monroe's mother have a magic paintbrush that she left to her son if Milton already had it in his kingdom? Were there two? Did he make her one of her own to make up for being an absent father?
4: Hell, he knew about his son, right? He seemed to know who he was. Why didn't you want to be in your child's life?? You gave him another paintbrush, more questions, and a half-hearted admittance to being a crap dad, then told him to leave where he'll never see him again.
5: (Throwaway Question) Would Dawn (before her death) or Edith ever find out about Monroe? Assuming theres DNA in this world, who's to say they couldn't trace the Finch relatives and reunite them. They could even have took Monroe in after his mom's death. Plus it would have been both curious, (now they know Milton didn't die) and therapeutic (having at least a piece of Milton back)
Its just plaguing my mind, I'm deeply obsessed with these games now unfortunately

"What Remains of Edith Finch", by Giant Sparrow.
"I thought it was time I heard the stories for myself. And found out what happened to everyone else. But now I'm worried the stories themselves might be the problem. Maybe we believed so much in a family curse... we made it real.", from What Remains of Edith Finch.
"I remember asking Mom once about where Walter had gone. She said after Barbara died he got as far away as he could. If there's a pattern in all these stories, I think it's that none of us has gotten very far.", from What Remains of Edith Finch.

The Visionary Journey of Ian Dallas and Giant Sparrow
Ian Dallas, the innovative founder and creative director of the acclaimed video game studio Giant Sparrow, often finds himself discussing culinary delights, yet his gastronomic preferences mirror his unique design philosophy. “I’m always interested,” he remarked, “in what’s the strangest, new intense experience that I can have.” This quest for the extraordinary is vividly reflected in Giant…

Gavroche Isha
So, considering that the part of the opening with Jinx represents Les Misérables, and we can conclude that Isha is Gavroche, I find it quite touching that the painting that inspired Victor Hugo for the character of Gavroche is Liberty Leading the People, where we see a street kid with a beret next to the central figure.
Tumblr media
'He is a resourceful and spirited street kid. Gavroche joins the insurgents on the barricades. Despite his young age, he plays a crucial role and shows exceptional courage. At a critical moment, when the insurgents run out of ammunition, Gavroche ventures out from the barricade to collect cartridges from the bodies of fallen soldiers.
While gathering ammunition, he sings a song, carefree and brave, but he is exposed to enemy fire. Unfortunately, he is struck by bullets and dies in the street, tragically shot down while trying to help his comrades.'
The parallel between Gavroche gathering bullets and Isha picking up Jinx's weapon from the ground because she has the Hextech gems to place in it, which can be considered as 'bullets,' is quite significant. Here is the passage from the book :
"It was a charming and terrible sight. Gavroche, though shot at, was teasing the fusillade. He had the air of being greatly diverted. It was the sparrow pecking at the sportsmen. To each discharge he retorted with a couplet. They aimed at him constantly, and always missed him. (...) He lay down, sprang to his feet, hid in the corner of a doorway, then made a bound, disappeared, re-appeared, scampered away, returned, replied to the grape-shot with his thumb at his nose, and, all the while, went on pillaging the cartouches, emptying the cartridge-boxes, and filling his basket. The insurgents, panting with anxiety, followed him with their eyes. The barricade trembled; he sang. He was not a child, he was not a man; he was a strange gamin-fairy. He might have been called the invulnerable dwarf of the fray. The bullets flew after him, he was more nimble than they. He played a fearful game of hide and seek with death; every time that the flat-nosed face of the spectre approached, the urchin administered to it a fillip.
One bullet, however, better aimed or more treacherous than the rest, finally struck the will-o'-the-wisp of a child. Gavroche was seen to stagger, then he sank to the earth. The whole barricade gave vent to a cry; but there was something of Antaeus in that pygmy; for the gamin to touch the pavement is the same as for the giant to touch the earth; Gavroche had fallen only to rise again; he remained in a sitting posture, a long thread of blood streaked his face, he raised both arms in the air, glanced in the direction whence the shot had come, and began to sing: "I have fallen to the earth, 'Tis the fault of Voltaire; With my nose in the gutter, " 'Tis the fault of . . . "
He did not finish. A second bullet from the same marksman stopped him short. This time he fell face downward on the pavement, and moved no more. This grand little soul had taken its flight."

HOW THE HELL DOES THIS HAVE 49 NOTES I DIDNT THINK THIS MANY PEOPLE LIKED MY STUPID SHIT
What would be really cool to see
You know what would be really cool to see more people in this fandom tackle? How Milton’s dissapearance affected the COMMUNITY. I mean-most of the town where they live know about the curse presumably-did they join Dawn in looking for him? What if there were search parties-people in the community, running around the woods and the beaches trying to find this missing boy-
Maybe they try to send a signal out tangled-style on the anniversary of his dissapearance every year-or simply leave little memorials for the boy who dissapeared. Hell, for all we know-in modern times there may even be PODCASTS or radio shows with conspiracy theories about what ACTUALLY Happened to him-
I know, I know it will likely never happen in CANON but now that the fandom’s getting bigger-it would be REALLY cool to see more people thinking about this! ANGST, MYSTERY, CONSPIRACIES-It would be REALLY fun to tackle!

The CRK Pirate OC Challenge!
Hello everyone! So I've set up a little list of prompts for writing/drawing for all these Pirates I've been seeing wandering across my field as of late. But I'm going to make it a little more interesting.
If possible please either pick up four Six-Sided dice or use this dice generator and roll out a random number- that number will be your prompt! Cause pirates live on chance y'see?
If you take this challenge please do not read your options before you roll, but if you are uncomfortable with the result do go ahead and re-roll. Thank you and I hope you enjoy these prompts
1. Lunch! Your crew is having a meal in the ship’s mess. Do they behave themselves? What are they eating? BONUS: you show either the Cooking process or the cleanup
2. Dead End Race- your oc is sailing in competition with other oc pirate crews! (Bonus: What is the prize at the end?)
3. Your Crew have somehow made it to the Vanilla Kingdom! Costume swap for the win? (Note: If you don’t follow the CRK game/lore feel free to re-roll)
4. Soon May the Wellerman Come~ pick an appropriately sea-themed song for this prompt!
5. UNO REVERSO! Your OC has done a complete 180! What do they look/act like now?
6. Someone on the Crew has done a Naughty. How does your OC punish their sailor? 7. Sea Monster Attack! It’s up to your OC’s crew to save their ship. How does it go?
8. Your OC has gotten sick. Who looks after them and do they behave as a patient? BONUS: How’d they get sick anyway?
9. Your Crew have somehow made it to the Hollyberry Kingdom! Costume Swap for the win? (Note: if you don’t follow the CRK game/lore feel free to re-roll) 10. Someone needs to look after the Cannons. Does it go well or does it go poorly? 11. Bananas and Coconuts. No I will not explain further, your OC must deal with Bananas and Coconuts.
12. Your OC encounters a pool of water that turns everything it touches into solid gold. How did they discover it and how do they deal with it? 13. Your OC encounters a very snooty treacherous noble who has your OC dead to rights. How does your character Jack Sparrow their way out of this one?
14. Draw your OC as a human/meme. If you’re doing this as a writing challenge then you must write a story with as many dad jokes as possible!
15. Drinking Contest! Team up with a friend and have your OC’s in a drinking competition! Decide the winner by rolling a six-sided die, the winner will be whoever rolls higher! (Note: if you’re too nervous to ask anyone, please re-roll)
16. Your OC got into a bind and now must use their Charisma to escape. Are they successful or cringey?
17. Your Crew have somehow made it to the Dark Cacao Kingdom! Costume Change FTW? (Note: if you do not follow the CRK game/lore feel free to roll for a new prompt!)
18. Things are getting Lovecraftian around here. How does your OC cope with the squishy horribleness of it all?
19. A Captain must go down with their ship. Depict the last stand of your OC
20. Mutiny on board! What does your OC do? 21. Your Crew has Made it to the Golden Cheese Kingdom! Costume change for the win? (Note: if you don’t follow CRK game/lore feel free to re-roll)

Hi all, I got back from UK Games Expo on Sunday - a fantastic weekend!
So great to spend time with good friends playing games, chatting and laughing. I travelled up with close mates and we stayed together in an Airbnb apartment which proved to be ideal (and far cheaper than us all getting hotel rooms!).
Our intention on the Friday was just to scope the place out and play some board games, which we did (though I did splash out on a paint set too), and very early on reached the Fighting Fantasy stand where I bumped into my friends Dave and Chris, which was great timing! It was lovely to chat with Ian Livingstone and Jonathan Green, and also Dan at Blue Giant Studios again and talk about the upcoming Fighting Fantasy Fest in September, the special miniature I'll be painting, and see that they've put my painted Bloodbeast on the box!
Tumblr media
Ian also let me know that there will be a gallery of the FF minis I did for him in his forthcoming book, so that was an amazing surprise!
Another highlight was that I got to chat with Gav Thorpe and Andy Chambers and try out Zeo Genesis , their new sci fi skirmish game, which was a lot of fun - I got to take a free mech suit mini too!
Tumblr media
I had lovely chats also with Bad Squiddo Games, Blue Giant Studios, Cerberus-studios, Realms of Tiberium, Moonstone and Louis Downs (Louis and I have been trying to meet up at the last 4 shows!), MODIPHIUS, Duncan Rhodes Painting Academy, and finally got to meet Man O Kent Games, Mike Hutchinson (Gaslands), Jon Hodgson Illustration, Lost Haven Art (who produced my logo and business promo material) The Thornless Rose, Rolltex Texture Rollers, and my friends Gonders, Julian Sparrow and Geordie Calgar who I know through Twitter etc. On the Saturday night, some friends and I had a big game of Grimdark Future One Page Rules, with Luke pitching his Ork horde against mine and Saul's Rebel Guerrillas:
Tumblr media
A great game, very hard fought, and eventually the orks victory came down to one dice roll to see if a squig was shaken after losing a combat - it passed and so finished by contesting the objective on our side of the table!
Purchases...
I decided to mainly buy things I had been promising myself for a while, and take advantage of show discounts, so in an effort to divorce myself from Citadel paints, I got the Monument Hobbies Pro Acryl base set from Element Games, and a rechargeable lamp from Daylight, which will be so useful when I'm painting at shows! I also picked up The Art of The Miniature Painting Tutor from Warlord Games  because I had heard so many good things about it. I did get a few minis, but deliberately kept that to a minimum as I genuinely want to clear my backlog... (yeah, I know...) so I got a couple of brilliant new Halflings from Bad Squiddo Games, one of Duncan's Sir Coats minis, and after my painful experiences with those Anarchy stencils a few weeks ago, I was determined to get some diamond stencils from Steel Harpy!  Also, as well as the  Zeo Genesis mechsuit, I was given a free mini from the Onepagerules folks. And given all that, I'm actually not feeling too bad this week - I'm continuing work on the Striking Scorpions and I've finished the first five, with the others well on their way, so I would think they'll be ready to photograph later today:)

5 Cozy Games from Steam’s Autumn Sale
It's the coziest time of the year- so grab a mug of tea, wrap yourself up in a warm blanket and settle in for some cozy gaming sessions. These are five cozy games that are currently on sale over on Steam! (Have I said the word 'cozy' enough for the algorithm?)
Fields Of Mistria
Tumblr media
Developer: NPC Studio Sale: 20% Off
Just one look at the art style of this farming game is enough to stoke the flames of Sailor Moon nostalgia.
Visit the beautiful village of Mistria to start your dream cottage core life. Filled with farming, cute cows and magic, the game is both beautiful visually and with wonderfully written characters who help flesh out this world.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fields of Mistria is truly a gem amongst the absolute mass of farming games that has invaded Steam since the rise of Stardew Valley.
Tumblr media
Spiritfarer
Tumblr media
Developer: Thunder Lotus games Sale: 85% Off
If you haven't played this cozy management style game yet, now's your chance to get your hands on it. The game features a beautiful hand drawn art style with incredible lands to explore and fantastically designed characters to meet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You play as Stella, a bright young girl working to maintain both your growing ship base and the relationship with your passengers. You work to guide them through this world, helping them make peace with their lives and staying by their side till the very last moment. I also cried so hard over a hedgehog, I accidentally injured myself.
Tumblr media
Touhou Mystia's Izakaya
Tumblr media
Developer: 二色幽紫蝶, Re零同人社 Sale: 39% Off
From what I understand, this is a stand alone game in a much larger, existing Universe. I don't really know much about it, what I do know is that you get to play as an adorable Sparrow Spirit who runs an Izakaya in the beautiful fantasy world of Gensokyo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can either buy ingredients of spend your mornings travelling the world to forage though that may take up precious time. The main game of cooking and serving customers can feel a bit chaotic but it's also easy to lose yourself in the groove as you play.
Tumblr media
Reka
Tumblr media
Developer: Emberstorm Entertainment Sale: 25% Off
In Reka, you explore the gorgeous woodlands as an apprentice to the Baba Jaga of folklore. Journey through the world, learning about the animals and spirits that also inhabit it whilst uncovering mysteries and secrets.
Tumblr media
You can even build your own Baba Jaga home complete with giant chicken legs that help you move from place to place. The world is procedurally generated so each experience is always a new and fantastic one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin
Tumblr media
Developer: Edelweiss Sale: 50% Off
You play as the titular Sakuna in this game, a spoilt harvest goddess who gets herself kicked out of Heaven- who must now work with mortals and tend paddy fields with your own hands.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yet another game with absolutely gorgeous art, the combat and platforming in this game is buttery smooth and super satisfying to play. The rice growing mechanic is surprisingly involved as well, with you watching over the field through the seasons- tilling the ground, controlling the water level and dealing with the weather before finally milling and refining the rice after harvest.
Tumblr media
That's it for this list. There isn't a ranking system here- just a few games that I think are worth the time, money and care.
If you do decide to give any of them a go, do let me know your thoughts!

Smumbo's top 10 games he happened to play in 2022
Not necessarily games that were released in 2022, just my favorites that I played for the first time last year.
10: Night in the Woods (2017)
by Alec Holowka, Scott Benson, and Bethany Hockenberry
Tumblr media
Peak fall vibes game. Night in the Woods features a compelling mystery and some great spooky moments. The setting and characters really resonated with me, so I got a lot out of it.
9: The Pedestrian (2020)
by @skookumarts
Tumblr media
Pleasant puzzle game inspired by the signage that surrounds us in our day-to-day lives. Some of the puzzles were quite difficult, and I kind of dislike the direction the game took in its last act, but it was still a very fun and unique experience.
8: South of South Mountain (2022)
by @colorbomb
Tumblr media
Cute & hilarious visual novel with a fantastic art style. I could not stop laughing throughout the whole experience.
7: Portal Reloaded (2021)
by PORTANIS
From a pure gameplay standpoint, this was a very satisfying sequel to Portal 2, and it's possibly the closest we'll ever get to a Portal 3. Portal Reloaded introduces a third portal which allows you to travel to the same place at a different time, so certain things have been moved/removed. It gets really complicated, and I’m amazed this was able to be created as a free standalone mod for Portal 2.
6: Frog Detective: The Entire Mystery (2022)
by Grace Bruxner and Thomas Bowker
Tumblr media
Approximately 3-4 hours of pure, unadulterated joy and whimsy. I can’t believe it took me this long to play Frog Detective, but I’m so glad I did. Everything about these games resonated with me strongly.
5: OneShot (2016)
by @girakacheezer, @nightmargin, and Eliza Vasquez
Tumblr media
A transcendent experience. Explores the unique ways in which video games can tell stories, and the nature of free will. Features some interesting meta game mechanics which require you to interact with files outside of the game. The visuals and soundtrack are spot-on as well. Weird how there’s so many great RPG Maker games which work so well in spite of the engine.
4: Scorn (2022)
by Ebb Software
Tumblr media
An incredible audiovisual experience. I liked the gameplay too, even though it seems like a lot of people were disappointed by it. I'm amazed that a game like this even exists. Absolutely oozing with atmosphere and symbolic meaning. The story spoke to me on an incredibly deep level despite lacking words, or even any semblance of humanity.
3: What Remains of Edith Finch (2017)
by Giant Sparrow
Tumblr media
One of the greatest games ever made. All of the vignettes and set-pieces throughout the game are flawlessly paced, with a wide variety of gameplay and visual styles. Packed with detail, made with love, and so emotionally resonant. I loved this game.
2: Bloodborne (2015)
by From Software
Tumblr media
For years, I would try to play Bloodborne whenever I had access to a PlayStation 4, but I wasn’t able to do a full playthrough until 2022. It lived up to the hype. This is my favorite From Software game, and it’s already one of my favorite games of all time. I really hope this gets a remaster/PC port some day. It’s a masterpiece.
1: SIGNALIS (2022)
by @rose-engine
Tumblr media
One of the greatest horror games I’ve ever played. Amazing visuals and atmosphere, fascinating world and lore, and a captivating, mind-blowing cosmic horror sci-fi story. I especially loved the evocative UI designs throughout. Highly recommended if you like Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Dead Space, PS1 style games in general, or if you have even a passing interest in survival horror. This is my #1 game of 2022.
